Q: Has the economy changed travel nursing?
A: The bad news is that the current economic situation has negatively impacted every market sector within the U.S. – including heath care. The good news is that hospitals are still hiring travel nurses but -- as they carefully watch their bottom lines -- they are requiring more from their nurses and agencies. The fact is the hiring landscape has changed; those nurses who are quickly adapting to the changes are the ones filling the open positions. Hospitals are requiring more upfront documentation, immediate interviews, and quicker start dates than ever before. The travel nurses being hired have their documentation in order and certifications up-to-date. They are flexible about their travel locations and willingness to float. They can start as soon as the hospital needs them and agree to an offer as soon as one is received.
Yes, the benefits of travel nursing remain strong. Higher paychecks, less red tape and adventure can still be yours in this economy. But while we are weathering the current economic storm it’s critical to quickly respond to our requests for paperwork (application, skills checklists, references, work history, certifications, etc.) and be on top of your game. Those who do will be rewarded with ample job placements and opportunities.
Q.
How long do I have to be a nurse (or physical therapist or occupational therapist) before I can become a travel nurse with Advantage
RN?
A. You will need one year of current experience at an acute care facility in the specialty area desired for your future travel assignment before you can travel with Advantage RN.
Q. Can my spouse travel with me? What about my pet dog/cat?
A. Yes, bring your whole family! Pets are also fine to take with you on your travel assignment. Our housing department aims to accommodate!
Q. Is it possible for me to travel with my best friend who is also a nurse?
A. Yes, as long as the hospital has positions available for both of you. We have a lot of traveling pairs at Advantage RN. If your friend is a new nurse you could earn a Referral Bonus (from $750 - $1000) for bringing her to us.
Q. How often will I get paid?
A. You will get paid every Friday! We provide direct deposit to your checking or savings account. You can also view your payroll information online 24/7 through our website.
Q. Are the travel assignments always 13 weeks? Is it possible for me to extend?
A. The majority of the assignments are 13 weeks but occasionally we offer shorter assignments of eight weeks; in other cases the initial commitment is for more than 13 weeks. And yes, it is more than possible to extend at the same location. We have great hospitals that love our travelers and if the census requires additional staffing, the hospital will certainly be offering extensions.
Q. What if I get on the assignment and I don't like it?
A. If for some reason you get on your assignment and do not like it we will try and accommodate you depending on what the issue is. Our goal is to work together with you to correct any issues at your current assignment or work with you to find a new one.
Q. How long will it take for an interview once you send my application to the hospital?
A. The majority of our hospitals interview within three days.
Q. How soon will I start working after my interview?
A. Once an offer is accepted we can get your started as quickly as you're available as long as all your documents and licensing is complete and activated.
Q. Do I have to sign a year contract with Advantage RN? How long am I contracted with your company?
A. Advantage RN does not have a yearly contract. You are contracted with the company for the length of your assignment. However, you may very well enjoy working with your Advantage RN Team so much that you may want to continue working with your Recruiter long after your first 13-week assignment.
Q. What about getting a job in a state where I don't have my license? How hard is that to get?
A. Your Recruiter will be happy to assist you with gaining a licensure in another state. We also have a lot of accounts in Walk Thru and Compact states which makes it easier for you to find work in those states. And don't forget Advantage RN will reimburse you at the end of your assignment for any fees you have spent in gaining your new license.
Q. What if my ACLS/BLS is expired? What should I do?
A. If you have a certification that is expired Advantage RN will try to help you find a testing location in your area for helping you to renew your license. There are also several websites such as http://www.emergencycourses.com/index.cfm?tab=ctab that can help you with find courses when you are in a crunch.
Q. What type of housing do you provide?
